New piece I'm working on

I found the top on the curb and the dresser I already had.  I'm wanting to put them together.  I'm just not sure which room it will go in or maybe I will sell it.  So what color to use.  I'm think maybe white but  just not sure.  I painted it white but it is not working for me.  So I will sand and try something else.  Also  the top seems to tall for the bottom so I will have to take maybe an inch or inch and half off.
